How It Works
How It Works
Enrollments, changes, and cancellations are made through Sterling Administration by the 7th of each month for the fulfillment of their next month’s elections. Payroll deducts the employee elections from their paycheck once a month.
Eligible employees receive their elected amounts added to their Sterling debit card by the 1st of each month.

Eligibility:
This program is available to employees who are in career, term, visiting researcher, and postdoc appointments
Through your web browser, please go to: http://www.sterlingadministration.com/, then click on “Login ” (upper right-hand corner)
Enter the following information (both are case sensitive) to enroll as an employee of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory:
User Name: Berkeleylab (click "LOGIN" to be prompted for password)
Password: LBNL1931
You will then be prompted to enter your personal information, including your Social Security number and Date of Birth.
Employee ID = your 6 digit LBNL ID (aka Badge #)
Create your personalized Username and Password.
Select either Parking FSA and/or Transit FSA, and the “Your Election” section appears below.
"Effective date" pre populates with today’s date. Please leave as is since this is recording the date you are making the election
Put in your monthly flat dollar amount election
For payroll schedule, select “Monthly” regardless if you are paid monthly or bi weekly
For your 1st payroll contribution date, Here are some examples of what to select since the deadline to submit elections is the 7th of the month for fulfillment the following month:
Example #1: If you have an effective date of 1-7 of the month, put your next paycheck date that happens at the beginning of the month. E.g. - If your effective date October 1, 2025, you would enter for your 1st payroll contribution date as November 1, 2025
Example #2: Those with effective dates 8 - end of the month, put the first paycheck date that happens after the following month. E.g. - If your effective date is October 20, 2025, your 1st payroll contribution date is December 1, 2025
Click “Calculate” and let the page refresh, then click “Continue”
Skip the Dependent Information page by hitting "continue".
For new Participants, select to receive a Debit Card Box.
Review and confirm your final details before submitting your form.
A Welcome Letter will arrive via email within 24-48 hours.

When Terminating Employment
If your account has a balance, move any funds out to a transit pass or Clipper card before your last day to avoid losing access to funds.
