To be eligible to receive the “inactive” Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), you must separate employment on or before June 27, 2025. Having a one-day break in pay before your July 1 retirement date entitles you to a 2% inactive COLA, which is added to your Highest Average Plan Compensation (HAPC). The HAPC is one component used in calculating your pension. July 1, 2025, retirees will also receive any applicable active COLA the following July 1 (2026).
Consider retiring on July 1, 2025, which would make you eligible for the Active COLA increase on July 1, 2026. One full year of receiving a pension is required to be eligible for the active COLA.
If you're thinking about retiring but haven't yet started, please review the information linked on this page and begin the process as soon as possible. The Retirement Administration Service Center (RASC) generally takes about 90 days to process a retirement from start to finish. You can still start the process now for a July 1 retirement date, but your first retirement check may be delayed due to RASC processing times.
To start and finish the retirement process, log in to your UCRAYS account at https://retirementatyourservice.ucop.edu/UCRAYS/Account/Login.
For those who elect and are approved for the “No Lapse in Pay” program (to ensure the continuous income during the transition to retirement with a pension payment on August 1st), all required documents must be received at RASC by May 15th.
Still have questions? Contact a RASC counselor or call the Retirement Administration Service Center at 800-888-8267. Please be aware that, due to the busy retirement season, wait times when calling RASC may be longer than usual.
Quick tip: It's best to call at 8:30 a.m. when the phone lines first open.
